Alison Donaldson
Alison is a dedicated paper artist based in the Houston area, known for her contemporary collage work. Her journey as a self-taught artist is guided by intuition, allowing her creativity to flow naturally. Her mother, an artist herself, greatly influenced Alison with her imaginative use of materials in unexpected ways. This inspiration is evident in Alison's fascination with arrangement, pattern, and repetition, which she explores by deconstructing original artworks and piecing them back together into intricate weavings or modern collages.
The therapeutic process of free painting, tearing, or cutting, and then organically reassembling the pieces, always surprises Alison with the results. This method not only yields unique and captivating artwork but also provides her with personal healing and reflection. Alison's creations aim to evoke joy and happiness in viewers, while also inviting them to delve deeper into the intricacies of her process and approach. Through her work, she seeks to create a meaningful connection with her audience, encouraging them to appreciate the beauty and thoughtfulness embedded in each piece.
Alison has a studio in Silver Street Studios on the Sawyer Yards campus in Houston. She taken classes at the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, including collage and assemblage. Last spring Alison was proud to be a part of "Gratitude of Art" with UTHealth Houston. She had a piece of art acquired for their corporate collection that was curated and compiled into a book for their top donors in the spring of 2023. Alison graduated from Texas A&M and had the opportunity to spend six months in Italy studying art history. When she is not creating art, she is spending time with her husband and their middle and high school boys.
